CITY OF SANTA CLARITA COLLEGE INTERNSHIP PROGRAM Geographic Information Systems (GIS) $13.33/hr 20-30 hrs./wk.
The GIS Intern will perform technical/paraprofessional tasks related to geographic information data, and mapping in application to a variety of planning, engineering, and administrative functions for the City of Santa Clarita.
The following skills, knowledge & abilities are highly desirable for program participation:
·REQUIRED: Experience with computer-based GIS mapping systems ArcGIS and ArcView 3.x in the areas of data entry, editing, management, analyses, reporting, and cartographic output. ·Data entry through on-screen digitization, keyboard data, scanning, GPS, portable data entry units, field data collection, and other methods. ·Research, collect, compile, evaluate, reconcile, and analyze geographic data. ·Upload & download information from other systems, and convert data received to GIS. ·Design & produce high-quality cartographic output, suitable for publication & public display. ·Perform quality control on data & correct errors. ·Maintain metadata and documentation, online & hard copy. ·Communicate effectively with staff & public. ·Mathematical strength: add/subtract, multiply, divide, percentages, fractions, volumes, ratios, spatial relationships, etc. ·Ability to exercise judgement, decisiveness, creativity required in situations involving evaluation of information against measurable criteria.
Education & Experience: ·Junior, senior or master level college student studying GIS in the fields of Geography, Planning, Engineering, or Computer Science, or related field, and/or equivalent combination of education and experience in GIS. ·Ability to operate computer related equipment, plotter, calculator, GPS data logger and other related tools.
