MapGuide 6.5 & MrSID G3 imagery

confusedHello SoCalGIS.confused

I have discovered a rather unfortunate compatability breakdown between LizardTech's Generation 3 MrSIDs and AutoDesk MapGuide 6.5.  We just recently finished the compression of our LAR-IAC imagery and we were all very excited that we could finally provide it to City staff.  Sadly, we discovered that there is a large performance hit when running MrSID G3 images through MapGuide.  While MrSID G2 images work very well, the G3 version loads agonizingly slow (taking around 5 times as long).  Our new G3-format mosaic is even a smaller file than the previous G2-format mosaic, yet the G2 outperforms the G3 in load time by a factor of 5.  Again, we are a minority using MapGuide, but if any ESRI ArcIMS/ArcServer users are experiencing or have heard of this issue, please share your conclusions.  I'm currently researching this issue and I will post anything I find out.  Thanks everyone.

RE: MapGuide 6.5 & MrSID G3 imagery

So, following numerous phone calls and a ton of web research, it is confirmed that MapGuide 6.5 does not fully support MrSid MG3 files.  The slow down in speed is an issue that will not be resolved anytime soon - if ever.  Therefore, if you are using MapGuide 6.5, make sure you get your MrSid images in MG2 format.  Here are the City of Palmdale, we were able to get a 30-day evaluation copy of LizardTech's GeoExpress software.  Within the software, you can directly convert from MG3 to MG2 files without needing a full data conversion cartridge.  We went through with the conversion process and now our aerials our functioning as they should.
