The City of Carson is looking for two GIS interns. These positions offer a great chance to do hands-on GIS work on a variety of projects. Duties include data gathering (with GPS and other methods) and checking, map production, and lots of special projects. The hours are 16-24 per week. We are closed Fridays, so work days are Monday through Thursday. Internships typically last about one year. Pay is roughly $11-$15 per hour depending on experience. A well qualified applicant will be a graduate or undergraduate student who has had some GIS courses and has an intermediate familiarity with ArcView 9.2 software. A desire to learn and try new GIS skills is a must. Our GIS operation consists of three full-time staff members and a web developer. This is an exciting place to work and learn from a good bunch of people. Plus, we’re freeway close! We have several on line GIS applications using ArcIMS and are now starting to develop applications using ArcGIS Server. One is working on city projects and the other will be working on an extensive project for the South Bay Cities Council of Governments developing a combined street network and merging general plan information from our 15 member cities into a single, continuous layer.
